The winners and family members gathered to celebrate the 2004 North Greece Fire District Fire Safety Poster Contest at their annual awards luncheon. The 9 winning posters were chosen from several hundred posters based on the theme “Test your Smoke Alarms!” Actual drawings / artwork are the work of the student on an 8-1/2 x 11” white sheet of paper drawn horizontally and is judged on initiative, creativity and imagination as well as the theme.
This contest is open yearly to all children in grades 1 through 5 attending schools within the boundaries of the North Greece Fire District. Posters are judged in three groups with prizes for each of the groups.
Group 1 is from grades 1 & 2, group 2 is from grades 3 & 4, group 3 is from 5 th graders with each group having 3 winners.
First Prize - $100 Savings Bond and a $50 Toys R Us gift card.
Second Prize - $50 Savings Bond and a $25 Toys R Us gift card.
Third Prize - $50 Savings Bond.
Winners also receive a special award made from a scanned image of their winning poster in a frame. Winners are sent to the state level for further competition. Firefighter David Falkner has run this program for several years and has also been submitting these winning posters to the state level for 3 years. North Greece has had 5 winners at the state level in the past 3 years and each of those winners receive a special presentation from NYS officials and the North Greece Fire District which includes a plague for the school and for the winner, as well and getting their poster publish in the New York State Fire and Life Safety Calendar. The state level judges over 3,000 posters from winning contests throughout the state.
